La letra nos habla de cómo tenemos que luchar por nuestros sueños frente al materialismo que nos rodea.Zach Filkins (guitarrista y compositor) y Ryan Tedder (cantante y compositor) se conocieron en Colorado Springs mientras estaban en el instituto y decidieron en 1996 crear una banda de rock alternativo con el nombre This Beautiful Mess, pero poco después se separaron para ir a la universidad. En 2002 se volvieron a encontrar en Los Ángeles y reclutaron a Brent Kutzle (violonchelo y bajo), Eddie Fisher (batería) y Drew Brown (guitarra), ya como OneRepublic. Firmaron con Columbia Records, pero dos meses antes de lanzar su disco, la discográfica canceló el contrato. Lejos de rendirse, decidieron aprovecharse de las redes sociales, especialmente Myspace, logrando fichar por Mosley Music Group. Finalmente, en 2007 lanzaron Dreaming Out Loud, y el remix que Timbaland hizo de su sencillo Apologize llegó al TOP2 de las listas estadounidenses. Dos años después grabaron su segundo disco, Waking Up, que contó con el aprecio del público y la crítica gracias a canciones como All The Right Moves y Secrets. En 2013 lanzaron su tercer álbum, Native, donde Counting Stars volvió a alcanzar el número dos en el Billboard Hot 100. Tres años más tarde publicaron Oh My My, que no logró mantenerse mucho tiempo en lo más alto de las listas. En 2021 finalmente lanzaron Human, un álbum que había sido anunciado inicialmente para 2020 pero retrasado por la pandemia. En 2024 presentaron Artificial Paradise, explorando nuevos sonidos que combinan elementos electrónicos con su esencia pop-rock. A pesar de los años, siguen siendo una banda activa y relevante, mientras continúan realizando giras internacionales.
